hey there,
converter doesn't make sounds by itself; it's a real-time midi data processor. In other words, you could connect a midi keyboard to it, use converter to modify the midi stream from your keyboard (ie. create keyboard splits, or many many other types of message / stream changes) and send the resulting stream to another computer or synth or sound module to generate the sounds from the newly processed midi stream that converter outputs. Or, you could use one of converter's non-midi inputs and objects to create new midi streams - for example, plug a joystick into the computer running converter and use it to generate pitch bend or breath controller messages.
converter is also capable of functionality and applications beyond this, but as a simplified overview, the above should provide a general sense of what converter is about.
